Should you book pest control before moving into a Melbourne home?

The best time to treat many homes is before furniture arrives. Empty rooms make skirtings, cupboards, wardrobes, sub-floor access and garage edges easier to reach, and there is less disruption to the family.

For apartments, pre-move treatment is useful if the building has shared rubbish rooms, older kitchens or known cockroach history. For houses, it is useful when there are roof noises, spider pressure, ants around paving or evidence of pets from prior tenants.

Ask for a written treatment record and warranty details. If the seller or agent mentions previous pest issues, get the detail in writing before settlement or handover.
